Happy Birthday Crosby
Friday 5th May marked our 22nd anniversary here at Crosby Dental. It feels like only yesterday that Peter and Lisa opened the practice back in May 1995. To celebrate, our receptionist, Kelly organised a fun day out for the whole team to try their luck at Breakout, Liverpool. We are proud to say that we managed to survive by solving a series of puzzles and games to escape the locked room. After many years of working together, we were confident that we could work together as a team to escape, and we did it!
National Smile Month
We are delighted to say that this year, we will be supporting National Smile Month which begins on Monday 15th May. National Smile Month is designed to raise awareness to the importance of good dental health and the link between the health of your mouth and the rest of your body. If you happen to be in for a visit this month, don't forget to pick up a free sugar-free treat from reception.
Making the shortlist<
We are thrilled to announce that we have been shortlisted for not one but three Dental Awards this year! The categories for which we entered were: Practice of the Year, Team of the Year and Dentist of the Year for our principal, Dr Peter Doyle. This past year has seen the practice updated with a new digital scanner, child friendly reception decor as well as our team taking part in a heap of wonderful charitable activities to raise money for causes close to our hearts. Our treatment of more nervous patients is something we are passionate about and our friendly team do everything they can to make a patient feel at ease or even have a laugh while they are here! We believe that our dentists high standard of care and range of cosmetic treatments including our popular private treatments with Dr Doyle are amount the reasons our patients return time and time again. We are so pleased for this recognition of our lovely team and practice achievements. Fingercrossed for the awards ceremony which will be held in March!
We often say that we are like one big family here and feel privileged that many members of our team have been working with us for so long. We are thrilled that February marks 10 years of excellent patient care from our lovely nurse, Rachel Reid. Rachel works alongside Dr Jenny Claus (pictured here) and reaching a decade with us makes her one of our longest serving team members. She is just behind our receptionist, Kelly who has been with us over 14 years! Each and every member of our team are invaluable- we don't know what we'd do without them.
Our team were recently visited by a 'Dementia Friendly' group who came to help us develop ways in which our practice can make provide the best care and support for those who may be suffering with dementia. We welcome a wide range of patients, young and old and are pleased that we can offer this service to our patients.
Proud of our team
All of our dentists are keen to keep learning and stay up to date with the latest in dentistry. Our newest addition, Dr Matthew Sudderick is no different. We are very proud of Matthew who has just completed an intensive orthodontic training course with renowned dentist, Dr Skipp Truitt. Our principal dentist, Peter Doyle who carries out our range of private tooth straightening treatments for adults and children here is especially proud as he undertook similar training some years before. Well done Matthew!
Mouth Cancer Action Month
November the 1st marks the beginning of Mouth Cancer Action Month. Recent statistics show that more than 1,800 people in the UK lose their life to mouth cancer every year. Many of these deaths could be prevented if the cancer was spotted early enough. Here at Crosby, we offer a 15 point dental health check which includes a mouth cancer screen. Booking in for regular dental health checks is an important part of combating mouth cancer. As a practice with an NHS contract, we offer free dental health checks to those under 18 and receiving some benefits. Please contact the practice to find out more. Join us in supporting Mouth Cancer Action Month by posting your #bluelipselfie on social media!
Peter live on air!
As long-term Liverpool residents, we were proud of our city's forward thinking 'name and shame' sugar initiative. We were delighted then, when Radio City invited our principal dentist, Dr Peter Doyle to talk about sugar and its effect on teeth. The full feature will be available on our social media pages soon.
Advanced skin treatments available
Our dentist, Dr Sefaakor Ahiaku has recently gained extra qualifications in facial aesthetics and is now able to provide wrinkle reduction treatments for our patients here. As a skilled dentist, she has extensive experience of giving injections and uses one of the best known, quality products. All patients are offered an initial consultation.
Scanning for top results
There's been great excitement here at the practice with the arrival of our brand new panoramic scanner! The Acteon X-Mind Trium dental unit enables us to take a full 3D scan of a patient's teeth and jaw. Patients can now have their scans taken right here at practice and this in turn is much more convenient for patients. It also reduces all of the paper work that we handle, taking us one step closer to being a little greener. A win, win scenario!

Who doesn't enjoy a cup of coffee with friends? Our team has decided to organise a coffee morning here at Crosby Dental on Friday 30th September for all those wanting to support the great work of Macmillan Cancer Support. Watch out for how much we raised via our Facebook page and don’t forget to bring along some cake!
Proms in the Park
Peter and Lisa Doyle are delighted to be sponsoring this year's Proms in the Park in Crosby. One of our local schools, St Mary's College, has hosted the event for the past four years inviting a whole host of talented, local musicians to play to the public. This year is set to be spectacular with a firework display and guest appearance from Liverpool- born, world touring opera soprano, Rachel Russell. Proms in the Park will be held on Saturday 2nd July at St Mary's College School sports field. We are very excited to be involved!
Dental Awards Night
We had a great time at this year's Dental Awards ceremony. We dressed in our best and headed to the black tie event, which was held in Birmingham. The opportunity of making new friends and colleagues in the dental world was inspirational and having the whole team of 'molar bears' together made for a wonderful evening. This was the first year that we had entered a dental award, so to make it to the finals in all three categories that we entered, was a wonderful achievement.
The Dental Awards
We are thrilled to announce that Crosby Dental have been shortlisted for three awards in this year's UK Dental Awards! Our principal, Dr Peter Doyle is in the running for Dentist of the Year as well as Dr Sion Howel for Young Dentist of the Year. Our third category is for Best Team. The Dental Republic, Dental awards are the oldest in the profession and we are delighted to be part of it for the first time. We can't wait to take some of our team to the ceremony which will be taking place in Birmingham this April. Fingers crossed!
Instant results with our digital X-ray machine
We are delighted to have a new digital X-ray machine in the practice. It’s a far more convenient way for patients to have their X-rays taken. Now you don’t have to move from the comfort of the treatment chair and you and your dentist will see the results almost instantly. Then the X-rays can be stored in an electronic record, a more efficient and sustainable system.
Best practice for Crosby
We are delighted to have achieved Best Practice requirements and top marks for our super clean sterilisation area.
A local dental nurse responsible for cross infection control from Liverpool Community Health made her routine annual inspection recently and we received great praise for our sterilisation room. Our nursing team make sure that every single dental instrument is cleaned at over 110 degrees and that all clean areas remain sterile and hygienic. Everyone here at Crosby Dental is really pleased with our top results.
Helping Rimrose Hope hit the target
We recently donated Marks and Spencer’s vouchers to a local primary school raffle but it wasn’t any old raffle! Rimrose Hope Primary School was raising money to buy a brand new mini-bus for their children. It’s great to know that with the help of donations from local businesses, parents support and a community spirit the school reached their target of £3,000 towards their new bus. Well done everyone!
2015 is an important year for Crosby Dental as it marks the practice’s 20th anniversary! The time has flown by and we can’t believe that Dr Peter Doyle and his wife and practice administrator, Lisa, opened Crosby Dental way back in May 1995. How our lovely team have grown and we are lucky to have such loyal patients - some who’ve been with us since the beginning. To celebrate Crosby’s china anniversary and also the efforts of our hard working team, we organised a day out for the whole staff in the Lake District. As you can see from our epic picture, it was action packed with no place for breakable china! Our favourite points were abseiling, canyoning and a picnic by a riverside. What a day.
